The winners of the International Hologram Manufacturers Association’s (IHMA) annual Excellence in Holography Awards have been announced at Holo-pack•Holo-print, The Holography Conference, in Vienna.
The awards recognise outstanding industry achievement and are presented to organisations who have introduced the most innovative or commercially viable hologram product or technique over the year.
Philip Hudson won the Brian Monaghan Award for Business Innovation. This award is named after Brian Monaghan, an innovative and enterprising entrepreneur in holography who died tragically young, and goes to the person selected by the Board of the IHMA as an individual who has followed the tradition of business innovation established by Brian Monaghan.
In presenting the award, the IHMA chairman Mike Messmer said: “Philip Hudson has shown a clear strategic vision throughout his career, which has seen the development of innovative and successful holographic products, while being committed to the industry and the industry association.
“He was active in the early moves to establish a hologram association and has the distinction of having served twice as chairman of the IHMA, first when he was at De La Rue and then when he was at Optaglio.”
Winners of other Excellence in Holography Awards were:
· Innovation in Holographic Technology – Hologram. Industries for DROP
· Best Origination – OpSec for Papillion
· Best Applied Security Product - InkSure Technologies, MTM Security and The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for SmartSure for Turkey’s Tax Marks
· Best Applied Decorative Product - PT Pura Barutama & PT Eigerindo for Holographic Brand Tag on Fabric
According to the IHMA, Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism Tax Marks use a hologram with covert taggants which are readable using SmartSure, a smartphone app. This mark is being used to protect 300,000 million items annually against counterfeiting. The tax mark was created by InkSure Technologies and MTM Security.
